Biography | Roland Busch — Born in This University Town, Not in Munich

People treat a Siemens chief as a Munich product because that is where the Konzernzentrale stands.

The register line is older and quieter.

Roland Emil Busch was born on 22 November 1964 in Erlangen, then in West Germany, a university and factory town north of Nuremberg.

The official Siemens curriculum and later supervisory-board filings both put the birthplace on that line.

Munzinger and the German biographical notices add the household without turning it into a tourist address.

His father was the principal of a primary school.

His mother worked at a local bank before staying home with two sons.

The older brother later found his own path inside Siemens.

The exact house and delivery room are not on the public record, and they should stay that way.

This pin sits on Schlossplatz, the civic square in front of the former margrave palace that now serves the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität.

It is the public face of the town he grew up in, not a private door.

Erlangen in the mid-1960s was already a Siemens town as well as a university town.

The company had moved large parts of Siemens-Schuckertwerke here after the war.

The Himbeerpalast on Werner-von-Siemens-Straße and, from 1965, a new research yard in the south of the city made the firm part of the street plan.

A child born here did not have to invent an industrial employer.

The school years stayed in Erlangen.

Later interviews and profiles record an early tilt toward mathematics and the laboratory sciences, the ordinary route into a Bavarian physics faculty rather than a sudden conversion in a Munich boardroom.

The later title — President and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens AG — is a Munich and Berlin legal fact.
