My Love from the Star | Jangsado Camellia Island — The Proposal at the End of a Ferry Ride

Do Min-joon proposes to Cheon Song-yi on an island of camellia trees in the Hallyeosudo strait. It is the one location in the series you cannot reach on a whim.

장사도해상공원 까멜리아 sits off the coast of Tongyeong, at 장사도길 95 in Hansan-myeon. Jangsado means long snake island, which is what it looks like from the water — narrow, curved, about a kilometre and a half end to end. Fewer than a hundred people lived here before it was replanted as a garden park. Camellias, a lot of them, plus dongbaek walks, a small amphitheatre and viewpoints over the strait.

Access is by ferry only, from Jeogu-hang or Gabae-hang on Geoje. Island admission is separate from the boat. Hours run 08:00 to 19:00 from April to September with last entry at 17:00, and 08:30 to 17:00 from October to March with last entry at 15:00.

The camellias flower from December to March. That is the wrong season for most travellers and the right one for the trees, and it is the difference between an island of green leaves and the thing the name promises.
