Esports|Tekken 7|Arslan Ash — The 3-2 Evo Final at Mandalay Bay

On August 4, 2019, Arslan “Arslan Ash” Siddique of Pakistan and Bae “Knee” Jae-min of South Korea met in the Tekken 7 Grand Final of Evo 2019 inside the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Arslan won the five-game set 3–2 and took first place; Knee finished second. The Evolution Championship Series was an open-entry, community-run fighting-game tournament. Its Tekken 7 competition was also the 2019 Tekken World Tour’s sole Master+ event, so Bandai Namco sanctioned the bracket for tour ranking points without operating Evo itself. Evo’s first two days used the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, but the Sunday finals moved into the resort’s 12,000-seat arena. Tekken 7 began at 3:30 p.m. local time on that stage, making the decisive match safe to pin at the Events Center rather than at the convention hall. The tournament used the United States PlayStation 4 edition of Tekken 7 in its Season 2 environment. Bandai Namco had released version 2.30 on May 30; version 3.00 did not arrive until September 10, so the later Season 3 balance was not part of this final. Tekken is a one-versus-one fighting game in which attacks reduce the opponent’s health, while sidesteps add movement around the series’ three-dimensional stages. A player wins a round by emptying the rival’s health bar or holding more health when the 60-second timer expires; three rounds win a game, and three games won this grand-final set. Evo used double elimination. Arslan reached the final without a set loss from the winners’ side, while Knee had fought back through the losers’ bracket; Arslan therefore needed one first-to-three set, whereas Knee would have needed to win that set and then a bracket-reset set. The official recording shows Arslan staying with Kazumi while Knee used Kazuya and then Devil Jin across the five games. The score reached 2–2 before Arslan took the deciding game, so Knee never forced the reset. The victory joined Arslan’s Evo Japan 2019 title from February and made him the first player to win Tekken 7 at Evo Japan and the Las Vegas Evo in the same year. It also completed his Las Vegas bracket without a match loss, a result Bandai Namco highlighted in its post-event account. The pin marks the arena’s historical 2019 name, Mandalay Bay Events Center; the same building was renamed Michelob ULTRA Arena in 2021.
