不思議探索でキョンと二人になった長門は、街を探し回る代わりに図書館へ入る。言葉をほとんど使わず本を読み続け、帰る段になって貸出カードを作る。その小さな手続きは、宇宙人という説明より先に、彼女がこの街で次の一冊を借りる人になったことを伝える。静かな場面だ。だから残る。
アニメでは北口図書館という設定だが、背景のモデルは夙川沿いの西宮市立中央図書館。低い建物、広い前庭、川から届く湿った風が、駅前の喧騒を急に遠ざける。館内は撮影せず、利用者の時間を守りたい。入口で一度カメラをしまって本棚へ向かえば、長門が選んだ沈黙を観光の外側から同じ速さで体験できる。
