People treat Costco Wholesale as an Issaquah membership giant that always printed COST.
The 1985 issuer was a two-year-old warehouse club.
James Sinegal and Jeffrey Brotman opened the first Costco warehouse in Seattle on 15 September 1983. Costco's own investor FAQ records the initial public offering on 5 December 1985 at 10.00 dollars a share before later splits.
The company's first annual report as a public company recorded an offering of 4,830,000 common shares, of which the company sold 3,830,000. Net proceeds to the company were about 35.2 million dollars in 1985 currency.
Trading opened on Nasdaq. The ticker later became PCCW after the 21 October 1993 merger with The Price Company, then COST again in February 1997.
The mechanism is a membership-fee retailer selling stock to open more boxes. Holders in 1985 bought bulk pallets and an annual card, not a digital app.
Costco opened its twenty-first warehouse, in Santa Clara, the day after the offering. The Price Club combination was still eight years away.
The pin is the public facade of Nasdaq MarketSite at 4 Times Square, the later face of the electronic market that still prints COST. Interior studios are not a visitor floor.
