Biography | Ola Källenius — The CityCube Hall Where Shareholders Made Him Chief Executive
kevin
People treat Mercedes-Benz as a Stuttgart company that always passed the chair to a German engineer.
On 22 May 2019 the first non-German chairman of the Daimler board took the job in a Berlin hall.
About five thousand shareholders sat in CityCube Berlin, the congress building on the Messe Berlin grounds at Messedamm.
Dieter Zetsche ended his mandate when the meeting closed.
Ola Källenius, then forty-nine and head of group research and Mercedes-Benz Cars development, became chairman of the board of management of Daimler AG and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
The company later restyled itself Mercedes-Benz Group AG.
The same meeting approved Project Future by 99.75 percent of the votes cast.
Cars and vans were to sit in a new Mercedes-Benz AG.
Trucks and buses were to sit in a new Daimler Truck AG.
Both new companies were to keep registered offices in Stuttgart.
Share capital represented at the vote was 52.91 percent.
The dividend for 2018 was set at 3.25 euros a share, a payout of 3.5 billion euros.
Källenius had joined Daimler-Benz in 1993 through the international management associate programme.
He had run Mercedes-AMG in Affalterbach from 2010, joined the Daimler board on 1 January 2015, and taken the research and development seat in 2017.
The supervisory board had named him as Zetsche's successor in September 2018, with the change dated to this annual meeting.
Messe Berlin's own 2019 report lists the Daimler meeting among the CityCube's guest events that year, in the same building that also hosted Volkswagen's meeting.
The cube still stands on the west side of the fairgrounds, next to the radio tower.
Källenius is a living executive.
The hall is a public congress venue, not a private office.
This memory marks a dated shareholder meeting and a published succession.
It does not mark a present workplace routine or a private residence.
