[WITHDRAWN DUPLICATE] Biography|Jeff Maggioncalda — Coursera Named Him CEO on This Evelyn Avenue Block → 11953

People treat Coursera as a Stanford faculty project that always had a public-company chief.
The dated change of command is 13 June 2017.
That morning the Wall Street Journal, EdSurge, and VentureBeat all reported the same appointment: Jeff Maggioncalda would succeed Rick Levin as chief executive of the Mountain View online-course company.
Levin, Yale's president from 1993 to 2013, had come out of retirement in 2014 to replace cofounders Daphne Koller and Andrew Ng in the day-to-day job.
On his watch the firm grew from about 7 million registered learners to 26 million, and from about 65 employees to nearly 300.
Maggioncalda arrived from a different trade.
He had been founding chief executive of Financial Engines from 1996 into early 2015, and he had already taken that firm public.
The Silicon Valley Business Journal, writing the next day, put the new desk in Mountain View and tied the hire to a 64-million-dollar funding round from existing investors including Kleiner Perkins and New Enterprise Associates.
The office that held Coursera in 2017 sat at 381 East Evelyn Avenue, in the Mountain View Corporate Center.
A 2016 company listing and later property records both print that address.
The later investor-relations page moved the legal headquarters to 2440 West El Camino Real.
This pin stays on Evelyn Avenue, the block that was the public address when the board named him.
The building is a multi-tenant office park, not a house.
A visitor still finds the glass-and-stucco block on the south side of Evelyn, west of the old light-rail stop.
Coursera later published a leadership page that dated his start to June 2017 and repeated the Stanford degrees and the Financial Engines years.
The public-company chapter at Coursera is a later story.
The first day in the job belongs to this lot.
