Biography|James S. Snyder — The Campus He Reopened on This Jerusalem Hill

On 26 July 2010 the Israel Museum opened its renewed campus to the public.

The night before, at an outdoor dedication, Shimon Peres and Benjamin Netanyahu had spoken on the hill in Givat Ram.

Snyder had been Anne and Jerome Fisher Director since 1997.

The museum hired him in 1996 after Martin Weyl stepped down.

He had not visited Israel before the interview trip.

The $100 million project ran three years.

James Carpenter of New York and Efrat-Kowalsky of Tel Aviv kept Alfred Mansfeld's 1965 village of low modernist pavilions and added the missing connections.

Gallery space doubled.

Anish Kapoor's Turning the World Upside Down, Jerusalem went in at the top of the new stair.

Attendance later climbed toward a million a year.

By the end of Snyder's run the endowment was reported at about $200 million.

He stayed as international president through 2018, then went back to New York.
