Parasite | Doijissal Supermarket — The Plastic Table Where the Con Begins

Min-hyuk sets a scholar's stone on a plastic table outside a corner shop and offers Ki-woo the tutoring job. Beer, a parasol, a stone that is supposed to bring wealth. Everything that follows starts at that table. The shop is 돼지쌀슈퍼, Doijissal Super, at 손기정로 32 in Ahyeon-dong, Mapo-gu. On screen it is 우리슈퍼 — Woori Super. The road is named for Sohn Kee-chung, who won the 1936 Olympic marathon under a Japanese flag and grew up in this neighbourhood. Two things to know before you go. The shop closed around May 2025. The owner, then in his late seventies, cited falling revenue and his health, and observed that foreign visitors photographed his storefront and almost never bought anything. And in March 2026 the Seoul Urban Planning Committee approved the block — 아현1구역 — for redevelopment: up to 35 storeys, some 3,476 units. The building is still standing. It is not going to be. So you will find a corner, and probably a different business in the unit, and no sign of any kind saying what happened here. Seoul never installed one. The 2020 plan to develop the site for tourism ran out of budget. Whatever shop is on that corner when you arrive, go in and buy something. That is the entire lesson of the film, compressed into one transaction, and it is the only thing you can do here that the neighbourhood will actually feel.
