芹澤の赤い車で東北へ向かう途中、鈴芽たちは道の駅 大谷海岸に立ち寄る。張り詰めた旅の合間にパンをかじり、言い争い、また車へ戻る。世界を救う話の中へ、空腹や休憩や買い物という身体の時間が入り込む。
道の駅の正面には、震災後に整備された海岸と広い空がある。新しい建物、地元の魚介、BRTの駅。ここで営まれる日常は、復興を完成した過去形ではなく、毎日更新される現在形として見える。駐車場から海を振り返ると、鈴芽たちが口にした一個のパンは、先へ進むために人がまず食べ、休み、誰かと同じ車へ乗り直すことを思い出させる。
