Silicon Valley remembers Webvan as a punchline.
Swan was the last person to hold the title inside this building.
Webvan Group was headquartered at 310 Lakeside Drive in Foster City.
George Shaheen resigned in April 2001. The company named its chief operating officer, Robert Swan, chief executive the same month and cut 835 jobs.
On 9 July 2001 the firm ended operations, laid off about 2,000 people, and prepared a Chapter 11 filing.
Computerworld recorded his explanation that continuing losses and a drop in second-quarter orders had run the clock out.
The photograph from September 2001 shows the headquarters after the shutdown.
He had left General Electric for the company during the boom and served as CFO, COO, then CEO.
The later eBay and Intel résumés keep the line. They do not soften it.
