In episode 3 of だがしかし2, the old game of beigoma turns the grounds of Mitsubashira Shrine into a contest arena. The joke works because Hotaru approaches a cheap toy with ceremonial intensity, while the location supplies real weight: weathered steps, trees, and a small precinct where generations of children could plausibly have tested skill against one another long before plastic battling tops arrived.

The shrine also sits beside a road used in the first season’s opening movement through Takeoka, so arriving here feels like stepping deeper into a familiar block rather than reaching a separate attraction. It remains an active sacred place. Bow if you pass the torii, keep the approach clear, and do not spin toys against shrine structures. Listen instead for the hard click of pebbles underfoot—the simplest sound needed to imagine a metal top beginning its tight circle.
