Reply 1988 | Ssangmun Station — The Name That Outlived the Set

Line 4 opens at platform 413 and the tiles still say Ssangmun. The station opened on 20 April 1985, three years before the Seoul Olympics the drama keeps circling. Exit 1 puts you on Dobong-ro. Exit 3 points toward the market. Commuters move the way they did when the show was on air. Nobody here is walking onto a backlot.

Reply 1988 named its whole world after this neighbourhood. The five houses, the gold shop Bonghwangdang, the alley where Taek swept the morning dust — that street was never here. CJ E&M built it on a former parade ground beside Uijeongbu Stadium and tore it down in 2016. Dobong-gu kept the name and laid a walking course instead. Ssangmun Market still has a gold shop and a painted line that reads filming location. The station is the honest door.

Stand on the concourse long enough and the show contracts to what it always was: a northern Seoul neighbourhood that kept its low houses while the river districts went glass. You do not find Deok-sun's gate. You find the place that made the gate worth inventing.
