Mr. Bean | Battersea Park Lake — One Controller, Two Machines

A boy’s model boat refuses to cooperate, so Mr. Bean opens the controller and improves it. The boat responds. Behind them, an electric wheelchair responds too. “The Trouble with Mr. Bean” lets the audience notice the connection before either operator does, then completes the mechanism by sending the chair toward the boy and the boy into the lake. Battersea Park gives the scene its necessary innocence: still water, a paved edge, and the ordinary concentration of someone testing a small machine on a quiet afternoon. The lake remains a public feature of the park, with a duck pond, rowing area, wildlife water, and paths around its separate sections. Stand near the waterline and the joke can be read as a map—boat ahead, path behind, Bean precisely where he should not be.
