People treat Datadog as a New York cloud-monitoring house that always printed DDOG at a mature multiple.
The 2019 issuer was a nine-year-old software company still posting an operating loss.
A company release dated 18 September 2019 priced 24,000,000 shares of Class A common stock at 27.00 dollars a share. Trading on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under DDOG was set for 19 September 2019.
The underwriters received a 30-day option on 3,600,000 more Class A shares. At the 27.00 dollar offer price the company raised 648 million dollars in 2019 currency.
CNBC recorded the first print near 40.50 dollars and a close at 37.55 dollars. Crunchbase recorded the open at 40.35 dollars.
The mechanism is a dual-class software IPO. Class B shares kept ten votes. Holders of Class A bought the economics of a monitoring platform, not control.
The pin is the public facade of Nasdaq MarketSite at 4 Times Square, the later face of the electronic market that still prints DDOG. Interior studios are not a visitor floor.
