Biography|Dinesh Paliwal — Two Master's Degrees Finished on This Oxford Campus

The scholarship that pulled Paliwal out of India in 1981 did not point at a coastal business school.

It pointed at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

He completed a master's in paper science and engineering here in 1983, then an MBA in finance in 1985.

Those two dates are the ones Miami's own alumni office still prints.

Paper science was not a prestige hobby on this campus. It was a working laboratory program with a pilot machine and a farm-state industry behind it.

The MBA sat next to that technical year rather than replacing it.

He had married Ila Sharma after the Roorkee years.

After the 1985 degree he entered AccuRay in Columbus as a systems engineer and project manager, the first rung of what became a twenty-two-year run inside ABB after AccuRay and Combustion Engineering were absorbed.

The current Farmer School of Business building on East High Street opened in 2009, long after he left.

The engineering college later gathered in Benton Hall and Garland Hall.

A visitor looking for the rooms he used in 1983 will not find a single preserved desk.

The campus is still the fact.

Miami later named him a national trustee, gave him an honorary Doctor of Laws in 2019, and accepted gifts from the couple that endowed a dean's chair in the College of Engineering and Computing.

The 1983 and 1985 diplomas are the reason those later honors have an address.
