Biography | David Baszucki — The High School on Valley View Road That Sent a Quiz Captain to Stanford

David Baszucki did not start in a California studio.

He was born David Brent Baszucki on 20 January 1963 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Helen and Paul Baszucki, who had met at the University of Saskatchewan.

The family moved through eastern Canada and then into the United States. He grew up in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

The public high school at 17185 Valley View Road is where that childhood acquired a direction.

Baszucki graduated with the Eden Prairie High School class of 1981.

He captained the school's television quiz team.

The campus standing here opened in 1981, the same year he finished. Older Eden Prairie schoolhouses had served a much smaller town.

Between dirt bikes and go-karts he spent hours on an Apple II and in science-fiction paperbacks.

A later alumni profile from the school treated that mix of tinkering and recall as the local origin story of the person who would found Roblox.

This pin is a public school, not a private house. The building still operates as a 9-12 campus on Valley View Road.

From these halls he left for Stanford University as an incoming electrical-engineering student.
