Biography | Bruno Oberle — The Gland Headquarters That Named Him Director General That July

IUCN is often described as a Geneva institution.

The legal headquarters is in Gland.

On 13 July 2020 the Union announced from Rue Mauverney 28 that Dr Bruno Oberle would be Director General, starting that day.

The Conservation Centre on that plot opened in June 2010 beside the older headquarters block.

The 2016 photographs still show both buildings.

English Wikipedia later rounded his term to August 2020 through July 2023.

From Gland he oversaw the delayed World Conservation Congress in Marseille, held 3 to 11 September 2021 after the 2020 postponement.

IUCN members adopted 148 resolutions and recommendations there and elected Razan Al Mubarak president.

In May 2023, while still in the post, he received the French Légion d'honneur at the Institut océanographique in Paris for work around the Kunming-Montreal biodiversity framework.

He left the director-general's office in July 2023.

Grethel Aguilar succeeded him.

He later became president of the World Resources Forum.

The site is a working headquarters.

Visitors come for meetings, not a museum.
