People who meet Brian S. Tyler as McKesson's chief executive often assume the path started in a boardroom.
It started on a hill above Santa Cruz.
In 1989 he finished a B.A. in economics with high honors at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
The campus address is 1156 High Street.
McHenry Library is the building students actually used, a concrete block set among redwoods at 414 McHenry Road on the same campus.
The economics department now keeps its office in Engineering 2.
That is a later address.
In 1989 the work of the degree happened on this public campus, not in a private office.
Later company biographies still put the Santa Cruz degree first, before the Chicago doctorate.
