The firm that pulled him out of Cambridge is easy to mix up with a later semiconductor house of the same first name.

That address is a six-storey office building, not a house.

On 29 June 2000 the San Francisco Chronicle's Northern California IPO calendar recorded Virage Inc. of San Mateo offering 3.5 million shares at 11 dollars.

The first-day close was 16.88 dollars.

The book raised 38.5 million dollars.

The ticker was VRGE.

PitchBook independently dates the same June 2000 listing.

Three years later Autonomy Corporation of Cambridge, England, paid 1.10 dollars a share in cash.

The merger closed on 2 September 2003.

Autonomy's closing release still called San Mateo the headquarters.

411 Borel Avenue remains a Class A office block on the Hayward Park side of San Mateo.

The visitor will not find a plaque for VRGE.

The pin is the office that printed the book.
