Biography | Houlin Zhao — The Posts Diploma Dated From This Old Campus

People date the career from a tower on Place des Nations.

The first diploma is a Nanjing college.

In 1975 Houlin Zhao graduated from Nanjing Institute of Posts and Telecommunications, the school now styled Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications.

The campus that existed then is Sanpailou, at 66 Xin Mofan Road, not the later Xianlin grounds east of the city.

The institute grew out of wartime postal training begun in 1942.

By the mid-1970s it was the ministry's specialist school for lines, switches and standards.

Zhao reached it after rural work and a factory stint, by recommendation and examination, the route of that decade.

The degree sent him inland.

From 1975 into the mid-1980s he worked as an engineer at the Designing Institute of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.

Chinese biographical summaries place that institute in Zhengzhou; it later became China Information Technology Designing and Consulting Institute.

There he sat on national standards meetings and on planning for trunk routes, including work tied to the Beijing-Shanghai-Hangzhou corridor.

In 1985 the ministry awarded him a second-class science and technology prize.

The same year he finished a master's in Britain.

Sanpailou is where the paper trail of the engineer begins.

The plane trees and the small campus lake are later furniture on an older plot.

The school still claims him.

In November 2018 its English site treated the Dubai re-election as news about its own graduate, the first Chinese secretary-general in the Union's then 150-year history.
