The outdoor baths at Hottarakashi Onsen sit high enough that the Kofu Basin spreads out below and, on clear days, Fuji appears in the distance. This is the place the Outdoor Club stops before their first real group camp, a pause between the road and the tents. In the series the baths feel generous and unhurried, the kind of ordinary luxury that makes the next night outdoors feel easier. Sit in the water today and the same wide view remains. The pilgrimage here is about rest that still belongs to the journey.
