Here Nadeshiko sits with her legs folded under her, a camping magazine open on her knees, while Chiaki and Aoi lean in and declare, once again, that they are going on a journey. The walls press close. The ceiling sits low. This is the “unagi no nedoko,” the eel-bed corner the Outdoor Activities Club claimed as its own. Outside the windows the hills of Yamanashi wait in quiet green, yet inside these three turn ordinary school hours into the seed of every future campfire. Stand in that same corner today and the silence of the closed school still holds the echo of their laughter and the soft rustle of maps. The pilgrimage does not begin at a lakeside tent. It begins here, in the tight beloved room where the desire to go outside was first spoken aloud and never let go.
