The Last of Us | Alberta Legislature — The Fireflies Never Arrive

Tess, Joel, and Ellie reach the Massachusetts State House expecting a Firefly handoff. The truck outside is abandoned. Blood leads toward the doors. In “Infected,” the gold-domed destination should mean rescue, but the silence around it says otherwise before anyone enters. Edmonton’s Alberta Legislature supplies the exterior and grounds, its Beaux-Arts symmetry made ominous by wreckage, military barriers, and the knowledge that Boston has already lost.

Approach from the grounds and pause far enough back to hold the dome, steps, and central entrance in one view. The production’s effects transformed the setting, but the underlying promise is visible without them: government made permanent in stone, waiting to impose order. That promise is exactly what the episode overturns. The Legislature is an active public institution. Its grounds welcome visitors, and free interior tours require registration and use the west entrance; security and Assembly business can change access, so check the official visitor schedule. Keep the pilgrimage outside the operational entrances when not on a tour. Finish at the foot of the approach and look up. The scene works because the building still appears capable of saving everyone—even when the people meant to meet them are gone.
