Mahiro stops for curry bread during the episode-12 stroll, buying from a shop the anime calls Wagashi Dozanya. The real storefront is Ginzan Onsen Meiyuan, close to Shirogane Bridge at the entrance to the hot-spring street, and its famous Haikara-san curry bread survives the move into fiction almost intact.

The snack gives the finale a necessary patch of warmth. Mahiro has been carried into a trip full of yukata, baths, teasing, and snow, while the question of returning to the old body waits just out of sight. A crisp fried bun filled with spicy curry is wonderfully unconcerned with any of that. It asks only to be eaten while hot. The series repeatedly trusts such ordinary pleasures to explain why this new life has become difficult to surrender.

Take the bread outside and let the first bite break the crust while the river street opens ahead. Long after the plot question is answered, that texture remains the scene’s argument: a future is built from the small things one wants to taste again.
