People treat a BMW chief executive as a Munich tower story.
The vote that put Oliver Zipse in the chair happened in Greer.
On 18 July 2019 the Supervisory Board of BMW AG met at Plant Spartanburg, at 1400 Highway 101 South.
That evening's ad-hoc filing, timed at 20:35 Central European Time, named Zipse Chairman of the Board of Management from 16 August 2019.
Harald Krüger would leave the board by mutual agreement on 15 August.
Zipse was fifty-five.
He had sat on the management board since 13 May 2015, with the production brief.
He had joined BMW as a trainee in 1991 after a Diplom-Ingenieur in mechanical engineering from TU Darmstadt.
The plant around the table was not a side works.
Opened in 1994 on a 1,150-acre tract in Spartanburg County, it had become BMW's highest-volume factory and the global home of the X models.
Norbert Reithofer, the supervisory-board chairman and a former chief executive, presented Zipse to the company as a strategic and analytical insider.
The public fact belongs to this campus, not to the four-cylinder tower on Petuelring.
A visitor today reaches the Zentrum museum and the visitor parking off Highway 101.
The assembly halls behind the gate are still the rooms that made the appointment more than a Frankfurt press line.
