Hur Jun | Changdeokgung Naeuiwon — The Infirmary That Promoted Him

Changdeokgung's restored Yakbang sits inside the palace that actually employed him. Tourists now file through the wooden compound the court called Naeuiwon, the inner clinic that kept the king, the queen, and the crown prince alive or failed them in public.

In the series, Hur Jun reaches this room the hard way. He treats Seonjo. He pulls the crown prince through smallpox. He stays with the court when other officials run during the Imjin War. The script compresses decades, but the geography is not invented. Naeuiwon was a working office here. In 1600 the historical Heo Jun became its chief physician. King Seonjo ordered the book that would become Donguibogam from this institution, not from a mountain hut alone.

The palace is open daily except Mondays, ticketed, at 99 Yulgok-ro, Jongno-gu. The infirmary itself has been interpreted for visitors since a 2005 restoration. In summer the management office even serves omija tea in the old cooling logic of the court. You do not need the drama's extras to hear what the room was for. A physician stood here and was judged by whether the king slept.
