Esports | Clash Royale | Nova Esports — The 3-1 Inaugural World Final at Makuhari Messe

On Saturday, December 1, 2018, Nova Esports and Vivo Keyd faced each other inside Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, for the first Clash Royale League World Final. Supercell’s publisher-run team league had reduced its inaugural season—40 professional teams across five regional divisions—to six finalists sharing one physical stage.

Nova arrived as the Spring and Fall champion of the China division, while Vivo Keyd represented Latin America; both advanced directly to the semifinals after the event’s seeding phase. Nova then defeated South Korea’s KING-ZONE DragonX 2–1 in sets, and Vivo Keyd eliminated host representative PONOS Sports to create the championship matchup.

Clash Royale is a real-time mobile card game in which competitors spend regenerating elixir to deploy units and spells from eight-card decks, trying to destroy more opposing towers or the central King Tower. The team final was first to three sets: it opened with two-versus-two play, continued through individual one-versus-one sets, and reserved a King-of-the-Hill decider if neither side had already reached three.

Vivo Keyd took the opening 2v2 set when Gabo and Kiki beat Nova’s Little Chen and Auk two games to one. Nova equalized as Little Chen defeated Javi14 2–1, moved ahead when Auk beat Kiki 2–0, and completed the final when Lciop defeated Javi14 2–1; the resulting 3–1 set score made a fifth set unnecessary.

Those game records identify the three Nova players who actually appeared in the final—Little Chen, Auk, and Lciop—rather than treating every registered squad member as an active finalist. Contemporary reporting identifies Lciop as Huang Chenghui and records that Nova recovered after losing the first set.

The event used the global Clash Royale mobile app during the public version 2.4.3 window, with Supercell’s November 5 balance changes already live. Supercell published its December update on December 5, after the final; no source discloses the tournament devices, operating system, server configuration, or a private event build, so none is assigned here.

Nova’s victory delivered the first championship in CRL’s original team-based world-final era. Makuhari Messe still occupies 2-1 Nakase in Chiba’s Mihama ward, and its curved exhibition-hall frontage remains recognizable from the public crossing where this photograph was made.
