Trollhättan's drop in the Göta älv was the Swedish state's first large water-power job.

On 1 September 1905 Gösta Malm left Stockholm's waterworks and joined the board for Trollhätte kanal- och vattenverk.

Svenskt biografiskt lexikon makes him arbetschef for the state power station from 1905 to 1910, and for the canal rebuild in 1909–10.

The plant later called Olidan put its first four turbines on the grid in 1910.

That year he was already överingenjör and head of Vattenfallsstyrelsens byggnadsbyrå, a post he held until 31 July 1914.

From the same desk he saw Porjus and most of Älvkarleby through construction.

The brick machine hall still stands on the river, a listed building since 2004.

Ten of the original thirteen Francis sets can still turn.

On 1 August 1914 he walked out of the state building office and into the managing director's chair at AB Skånska Cementgjuteriet.

The contractor's head office moved from Malmö to Stockholm that same year.

He kept the Skanska chair only until June 1917, then took the governorship in Norrbotten.

The river wall at Olidan is the place where the engineer became someone a board would hire.
