Carl Oskar Gustaf Malm was born here on 11 May 1873, the son of the farmer Johan Ludvig Malm and Edla Katrina Kristina, born Cederberg.

Estuna is a thin parish north of Norrtälje, not a mill town and not a capital suburb.

The church on this ridge is medieval grey stone, with a thirteenth-century font still inside.

That is the public building that stood over the parish when the farmer's son was recorded.

Malm left the parish for Stockholm's higher realskola and sat his leaving examination on 14 May 1891.

Four months later, on 15 September, he enrolled at Kungliga Tekniska högskolan.

The road out of Estuna is the whole plot: a farmer's son trained as a civil engineer in water and roads, then asked to run the works that would feed a capital and light a river.

He came back to the printed record as landshövding, minister, and director-general.
