Biography | Ernst Wehtje — The Law Degree Taken in Zettervall's New University House

The farmer's son did not stay on the lease.

He sat the school-leaving exam in Lund in 1880, then stayed in the town for the law course.

Hvar 8 dag, writing while he was still alive, records the juridisk-filosofisk examen of 1882 and the juris utriusque kandidat of 1887, both at Lunds universitet.

By then the faculty no longer sat in Kungshuset.

Helgo Zettervall's Universitetshuset on Paradisgatan had been opened by Oscar II on 27 September 1882.

The law degree of 1887 was taken in that new house, five years old, with the sphinxes still on the roof.

Two years later the Skanes hovratt gave him the title vice haradshovding.

He did not go on to a court career in Stockholm.

He stayed south of the highway, first as an extra clerk and county notary in the Malmohus county administration.

The rented farm at Svalov had bought him a profession. The profession bought him Malmo.
