Biography | 雷军 Lei Jun — The Luojia Hill Campus Where He Took a Computer Science Degree

People treat Xiaomi as a Beijing company that appeared in 2010.

The computer science degree that made Lei Jun hireable was taken on Luojia Hill in Wuchang.

He was born on 16 December 1969 in what was then Mianyang County, now Xiantao, in Hubei.

Both parents taught school.

In 1987 he left Hubei Provincial Mianyang High School and entered Wuhan University's computer science department.

The official Xiaomi board biography records a Bachelor of Science in computer science from Wuhan University in July 1991.

Some later profiles compress that into two years of coursework and a 1990 date.

The company's own filing is the date used here.

The campus he walked is still the university.

The specific computer-science rooms of the late 1980s have been rebuilt and the school now occupies a later building of more than 40,000 square metres.

Pin the hill, not a demolished corridor.

In 1998 the same university named him an honorary professor.

A later gift paid for a science building that carries his name.
