2 Fast 2 Furious | Biscayne Boulevard Arena — The Building That Dates the Film

Watch the opening race with the sound down and the same white bulk keeps sliding through the background of shot after shot: the arena on Biscayne Boulevard, opened in 1999, three years old when the cameras rolled and still the newest large thing on the bayfront. It is the landmark that fixes the movie in time. Sponsors have changed the name twice since — American Airlines Arena then, Kaseya Center now — but the curved bay-facing glass, the roofline and the plaza in front of it are the same shapes the film photographed.

The useful vantage is the water-side plaza, reached along the Museum Park walkway. From there you get what the aerial units got: the boulevard running south into the towers, the port and its cruise ships across the channel, and a clean sightline down the lanes the race used.

Come around sunset on a night with no game. The plaza empties out, traffic on Biscayne keeps moving in the same pattern, and the background of a twenty-year-old car movie plays itself quietly in real time.
