The Adjustment Bureau | Yankee Stadium — a door in Midtown, a ballpark in the Bronx

The best trick in the film is a plain office door. Turn the handle a certain way while wearing the right hat, and the corridor on the other side is nowhere near the corridor you left. New York's landmarks become rooms in a single building, and Yankee Stadium — which the production filmed at during the shoot — is one of the places those doors open onto, a stadium reachable in one step from Midtown.

It is a good joke to play on this particular address. The Yankees moved into the current stadium at 1 East 161st Street in 2009, a season before the crew was working in the city, directly across the street from the site of the old one, which is now Heritage Field's public ball diamonds. Two stadiums, one block apart, one of them a memory.

You do not need a game. The daily tours walk you through Monument Park, the clubhouse and the dugout, and the concourse frieze quotes the old house without pretending to be it. Stand in an empty stadium on a weekday afternoon and the film's premise stops feeling like fantasy: a space built for fifty thousand people, silent, waiting for someone to arrive.
