Someday or One Day | The Red House — The Wu Bai Concert They Finally Got To

Last Dance is the mechanism. Put it on a Walkman and the loop opens, and the whole franchise runs on a song by Wu Bai. So the concert becomes the debt: in 1998 Mo Jun-jie and Chen Yun-ru were supposed to go together and never did, and everything after that grew in the gap.

The 2022 film settles it. The Wu Bai concert was shot at Riverside Live House in the basement of the Red House in Ximending, and the film's ending puts Jun-jie beside Yun-ru with one earphone each, listening to it together at last. It is the closure the television series deliberately withheld from the character who needed it most.

The building is worth the trip on its own. It went up in 1908 as Taiwan's first purpose-built public market, designed by Kondo Juro: an octagon grafted onto a cruciform hall, red brick with pale stone banding. Because the plan is eight-sided you can never see the whole facade at once, which is a strange and slightly disorienting thing to walk around. Under warm uplighting at night the brick reads almost black; in daylight it is orange-red.

The south plaza is Taipei's long-established queer bar cluster — outdoor tables, low bass bleed, a crowd noise completely unlike the teenage retail roar of Ximending on the far side of Chengdu Road.

Complex open Tuesday to Sunday, eleven to half past nine, later on Fridays and Saturdays, closed Mondays. Outdoor areas are free and always open. The live house is a working ticketed venue and still programming.

Buy a ticket to whatever is playing in the basement and go down. The room where they shot it is small, hot, and low-ceilinged, and it is a much more ordinary place than the myth attached to it. That is the correct scale for the scene.
