夜のホテルで、八幡と雪乃は川崎沙希が働く姿を見つける。第5話の「ホテル・ロイヤルオークラ」とレストラン「エンジェルラダー」は、ホテルニューオータニ幕張を下敷きにした場所だ。二人が追っていたのは不良行為ではない。沙希は、進学の費用を自分で用意しようとしていた。
高層棟と大きな宴会場が並ぶ外観は、制服姿の高校生には少し背伸びを要求する。磨かれた床、静かなロビー、夜まで灯る窓。アニメはその華やかさを、沙希の孤立を飾る背景にはしなかった。家族を思う責任感が、相談するという選択肢を見えなくしていたことを、八幡と雪乃が初めて具体的に知る場所として使った。
海浜幕張駅から歩いて塔を見上げれば、窓の数だけ夜の仕事がある。あの回で奉仕部が持ち帰ったのは解決策より先に、一人で抱え込む理由は外からは見えないという事実だった。
