On December 15, 2019, NRG Esports and Renault Vitality met on the live stage inside Palacio Vistalegre in Madrid for the grand final of the Rocket League Championship Series Season 8 World Championship. [Psyonix’s ticket announcement](https://www.rocketleague.com/news/grab-your-tickets-to-the-season-8-rocket-league-world-championship) and the [venue’s own event archive](https://www.palaciovistalegre.com/event/rocket-league-world-championship/) place the three-day championship at this arena from December 13–15, rather than at an organizer office or a city-only pin.
Rocket League turns association football into a three-dimensional driving contest: three players on each side use rocket-powered cars to strike a large ball into the opposing goal. A standard game has five minutes of regulation, goals are the scoring unit, and a tie continues into sudden-death overtime; in a best-of-seven series, the first team to win four games takes the match.
This was the official, Psyonix-run RLCS, played on the Windows PC/Steam LAN client in Competitive Season 12. The public PC revision in force was [v1.71](https://www.rocketleague.com/news/patch-notes-v1-71), released by Psyonix on December 11, while the [preserved championship replay](https://ballchasing.com/replay/e0ef1658-d6ed-4b04-ac36-3010547c8872) identifies the final as a Local Lobby, 3v3 match administered through “RLCS Admin” accounts.
NRG’s trio was Garrett “GarrettG” Gordon, Justin “jstn.” Morales, and Pierre “Turbopolsa” Silfver; Renault Vitality used Alexandre “Kaydop” Courant, Victor “Fairy Peak!” Locquet, and Kyle “Scrub Killa” Robertson. NRG had beaten Vitality 3–2 in Group A and Spacestation Gaming 4–1 in the semifinal, while Vitality reached the rematch by defeating Dignitas 4–3.
The final moved back and forth across seven games: NRG won 4–1, 2–1, 1–0, and 2–1, while Vitality took its games 1–0, 4–3, and 3–2. That left the series tied 3–3 before Game 7 on Champions Field, where NRG and Vitality finished regulation level at one goal apiece.
Twenty-one seconds into overtime, jstn. scored his second goal of Game 7 to make it 2–1 and end the series 4–3. The result gave NRG its first RLCS World Championship, while Turbopolsa collected his fourth player world title and the event’s World Championship MVP award.
[Psyonix’s official recap](https://www.rocketleague.com/news/presenting-your-season-8-world-champions) records the bracket, decisive overtime, champion, runner-up, and $200,000 first prize; [Gamereactor](https://www.gamereactor.eu/nrg-esports-are-the-rlcs-season-8-world-champions/) independently confirms the 4–3 progression and overtime finish, and the archived replay supplies the game-by-game goal totals.
