由比ヶ浜がテーブルを叩き、これは勉強会ではないと訴える。けれど、教科書を開いたはずの時間は、質問と相談と雑談の境目をすぐに失っていく。第5話で「ワリンピア」として描かれたイオンマリンピアは、奉仕部の三人と戸塚が、同じ机を囲むこと自体にまだ慣れていなかった頃の舞台だ。
稲毛海岸駅前に立つ実際の建物は、買い物袋、自転車、入口の時計、夕方の待ち合わせが重なる、ごく普通の生活の中心である。作品はその普通さを消さなかった。八幡の皮肉も、雪乃の正論も、結衣の話を続けようとする力も、特別な景色ではなく、誰でも立ち寄る店のざわめきの中で少しずつ同じ方向へ向かう。
正面広場から青いMARINPIAの文字を見上げると、奉仕部が友情を宣言する前に、まず同じ午後を過ごしていたことがわかる。入口の小さな時計だけが、彼らの長い雑談を今も黙って測っている。
