The seven-storey stone pagoda in Tappyeong-ri stands 14.5 metres in a lawn that used to be the claimed centre of Silla. National Treasure No. 6. The Namhangang slides past the park. VisitKorea still sends couples here for the scene in which Ri Jeong-hyeok's men find Yoon Se-ri again after they have crossed into the South.
The reunion is staged against the tower and the river path at 112-28 Jungangtap-gil, Chungju. The soldiers are not soldiers. The pagoda is the only thing in the frame that was already famous. A large moon sculpture now sits in the grass for photographs the drama never asked for.
Walk the loop from the pagoda to the water. The park is open all hours. Chungju's tourist office answers in four languages. The drama needed a public monument that could stand in for a country the characters were not allowed to film. The tower has been doing that work since the eighth century. It does not need the moon.
