Warren Buffett moved his investment partnerships into Kiewit Plaza on 1 January 1962.
The building at 3555 Farnam Street had opened the year before as the headquarters of Peter Kiewit Sons'.
Buffett consolidated the partnerships here and began the path that led to control of Berkshire Hathaway three years later.
The office occupies part of the eighth floor.
About twenty people work there, a deliberate choice that keeps the headquarters small even as the company has grown into one of the largest in the world.
The building itself later changed names to Blackstone Plaza, but Berkshire's presence remained.
Visitors still find the same address that has served as the operational center since the early 1960s.
