Biography|Matt Murphy — The Lancaster Tower Where a Liberal-Arts Degree Preceded Two Decades in Chips

Franklin and Marshall's Old Main still sits on College Hill in Lancaster, the Gothic tower that has marked the merged college since 1856.
Matthew J. Murphy took a Bachelor of Arts here and finished in 1994.
Marvell's own leadership page and later proxy statements name that degree and no engineering diploma.
Silicon Valley Business Journal, writing in November 2019, put the same year on the move that followed: he left Lancaster and went home to Woodside, then started in product marketing at Maxim Integrated.
The campus is a public liberal-arts college at 415 Harrisburg Avenue.
Old Main, Goethean Hall and Diagnothian Hall went onto the National Register in 1975.
A visitor standing on the lawn is looking at the same entrance tower the class of 1994 walked past, not at a private house.
Chip chief executives are often sold as engineers who later learned a boardroom.
Murphy's public record runs the other way: a Pennsylvania B.A., then twenty-two years inside an analog house before Marvell's board named him chief.
The college does not publish a day-level commencement date for him, so the pin is the year and the building.
What can be said without stretching is that this hill is where the documented education ended and the Maxim chapter began.
