People who meet Jane Fraser as Citi's chief executive tend to start the story on Wall Street.

The earlier pin is a small university town on the Fife coast.

She was born in St Andrews on 13 July 1967.

Reference works list the town as her birthplace.

She has later said she grew up in Monifieth, a few miles down the same shoreline toward Dundee.

Both facts can be true at once.

Her father worked as an accountant.

When she was twelve the family moved to Australia.

The Royal and Ancient clubhouse sits behind the first tee of the Old Course and is the public face of the town she was born in.

It is not a claim that she lived in the clubhouse, and it is not a private house.

The later life is a banker's life in London, Madrid, Boston, and New York.
