Biography|Günther Bräunig — The Palmengarten Campus He Finally Ran

KfW's public address is Palmengartenstraße 5-9, hard against the Palmengarten in Frankfurt's Westend.

Günther Bräunig had worked on this campus since 1989, first as head of international capital markets.

On 1 January 2018 he became Vorstandsvorsitzender of the group.

The Verwaltungsrat confirmed the appointment in late December 2017, after Ulrich Schröder stepped down as chairman for health reasons.

Bräunig had sat on the Vorstand since 1 October 2006 and had been deputy chairman from September 2017.

He was 62.

The main house on this block dates to 18 November 1968, when KfW left Gutleutstraße and gathered its staff by the palm garden.

Nord- and Südarkade followed in the mid-1980s on land KfW took over in 1983.

Ostarkade opened in 2002.

Westarkade, on the old Deutsche Bibliothek site along Zeppelinallee, opened in 2010.

A visitor who photographs the glass slabs is looking at a campus that grew around the 1968 house, not at a single tower.

The Federal Republic holds 80 percent of KfW and the Länder hold 20 percent.

It is a public-law institution, not a listed commercial bank.

Bräunig's contract as published in December 2017 ran to 30 June 2021.

He remained in the chair until 31 October 2021, when Stefan Wintels succeeded him.

He declined a later approach to chair Commerzbank's supervisory board.

The pin is the official headquarters, not a private office.

From this block a Wiesbaden lawyer who had already cleaned up IKB ran Germany's public development bank through the last pre-pandemic years and the first months of the pandemic.
