Biography | Sundar Pichai — The Same Campus Where Alphabet Dropped to One Chief Executive

People treat Alphabet as a second company that always had its own chief executive.

For four years it did.

Larry Page ran Alphabet and Sundar Pichai ran Google after the 2015 split.

On 3 December 2019 Page and Brin published a joint letter on the company blog.

They said Alphabet and Google no longer needed two chief executives and a president.

The Alphabet board appointed Pichai chief executive of Alphabet, effective immediately, while he kept the Google title.

An 8-K filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission gives 2 December 2019 as the earliest event date and 3 December as the announcement date.

Page and Brin stayed on the board and as co-founders.

They did not leave the cap table.

Pichai had already joined the Alphabet board in July 2017.

The pin is again the Googleplex at 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway.

Alphabet's public headquarters sits on the same Mountain View campus as Google.

The 2015 memory on this map is the day Google got a new chief executive.

This one is the day the parent company did.

A later visitor center opened in 2023 in the Gradient Canopy building next door.

The 2019 letter did not invent that hall.

Pichai is a living executive.

The campus remains a working headquarters.

This memory marks a dated securities filing and a public letter.

It does not mark a present office routine or a private residence.
