Reborn Rich | Gallery K.O.N.G., Samcheong-dong — Mo Hyun-min's Gallery

Mo Hyun-min runs a gallery, and in a drama about people who inherit things, that detail does specific work. Art is the one asset a chaebol daughter-in-law can hold in her own name and call taste rather than money.

The real place is Gallery K.O.N.G., on Samcheong-ro 7-gil, a few minutes uphill from Anguk Station. It is small — two floors, white rooms, tall windows — and easy to walk straight past. Since opening in 2005 it has been one of the more consequential photography galleries in Seoul, the kind that brought international work to Korean audiences before that was routine, and it now shows contemporary art more broadly.

Go on a weekday and you may well be the only person in the room, which is the correct way to see it. Tuesday to Saturday, half past ten to half past five, closed Sundays and Mondays. Sometimes free, sometimes a modest admission depending on the show. The natural light through those windows is beautiful and, as regulars will tell you, occasionally a nuisance on glazed frames — stand off-axis.

Samcheong-dong outside is all cafés and queues now. Inside, the ceiling is high and nothing is for sale to you.

That gap between the street and the room is the whole reason the location works on screen: the gallery in the drama is not a business, it is a position, and this building shows you exactly what a position feels like from the inside.
