Goblin | Fairmont Le Château Frontenac — Kim Shin's Hotel, and the Lobby Postbox

Eun-tak arrives in Canada, looks up, and stops walking. The building doing that to her is the Château Frontenac — green copper roofs, brick turrets, four hundred rooms stacked on a cliff above the St. Lawrence, and in the drama's logic, a hotel Kim Shin happens to own, because a man who has been alive nine hundred years would have accumulated a few things.

It is a real hotel, opened in 1893 by the Canadian Pacific Railway to persuade people that a train journey ended somewhere worth arriving at. The claim you will see repeated is that it is the most photographed hotel in the world, and standing on Terrasse Dufferin below it at dusk you will believe it.

Fans come for the lobby postbox. Eun-tak drops a letter into it, and the box is still there and still collects mail, which means you can post something and it will actually go. The lobby is open to non-guests; walk in, be quiet, and nobody minds. Guided history tours run daily if you want the interior properly.

Terrasse Dufferin, the boardwalk along the cliff edge, is free and gives you the classic elevation. Parc du Bastion-de-la-Reine just uphill is where Kim Shin sits looking down at it — fans call that slope Goblin Hill.

Post a letter to someone at the desk in the lobby. It is a small, slightly ridiculous thing to do, and it is the one gesture from this drama that you can actually complete rather than just photograph.
