The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power | Anawhata Beach — Galadriel’s Ride into the Light

For most of the first two episodes, Galadriel moves as though the whole weight of the Second Age is pressing against her. Then, in “Adar,” Elendil gives her a horse. The music lifts, the camera opens onto a black-sand coast, and she lets herself smile. The slow-motion ride is one of the season’s rare moments of pure release. That gallop was filmed at Anawhata Beach on Auckland’s wild west coast. The New Zealand Film Commission records the production working here, and the episode’s horseback sequence has been matched to this strand. The Tasman surf, dark volcanic sand and green headlands do not need to pretend very hard: they give Númenor a horizon that feels both beautiful and slightly dangerous. To stand in the frame, drive the unsealed Anawhata Road to the public parking area, then follow Anawhata Beach Track for roughly 20 minutes downhill. Save energy for the steeper return. Check Auckland Council’s live track status before leaving, use the kauri-cleaning stations, and carry out everything you bring. The beach has no surf patrol; treat the water as scenery unless conditions and your experience make entry genuinely safe.
