Love in the Moonlight | Gwanghwamun — The Teaser That Used the Real Gate

People treat the first Love in the Moonlight teaser as a studio gag with a green screen gate. Park Bo-gum danced in front of this one. On 15 July 2016 KBS released a clip of the crown prince in a dragon robe moving to Jessy Matador's "Bomba" on the plaza before Gwanghwamun, the south gate of Gyeongbokgung. The clip left the country before the first episode did. In October the leads held a fan signing inside the palace in costume, on the same ground the cameras had already used for court scenes. Gwanghwamun sits at 37.576 north, 126.977 east, rebuilt on its original line after the 2010 restoration. The plaza in front of it is public. The gate behind it is ticketed. Both were already famous before a pop song met a prince. You do not need the soundtrack. The gate is heavy enough. What the teaser proved is that the production trusted the real threshold of Joseon's main palace to carry a joke, a romance and a ratings campaign at the same time.
