Amanohashidate Chairlift and Monorail was one of the most enjoyable parts of the trip, because the ride itself already felt like a scenic attraction before we even reached the top. As the chairlift carried us up Mt. Monju, the view opened wider and wider until Amanohashidate appeared below like a beautiful green ribbon stretching across bright blue water.
The ride was peaceful, refreshing, and a little exciting at the same time. From above, the coastline, pine-covered sandbar, and quiet town formed a landscape that looked almost unreal, and it was easy to understand why this viewpoint is called Hiryukan, or the “flying dragon view.”
At the summit, the observation deck gave us a full panoramic look at one of Japan’s Three Scenic Views. The experience was not only about seeing Amanohashidate from above, but also about slowing down and enjoying the mountain air, the open sky, and the sense of height over the bay.
Chairlift experience
The chairlift is the classic open-air option, and it is part of the charm of Amanohashidate View Land. It takes about 6 minutes one way, and the ride feels smooth while offering sweeping views of the sandbar, the sea, and the green hills around Miyazu Bay.
The monorail is the more comfortable and accessible option, especially for wheelchair users or anyone who prefers a seated enclosed ride. Both options lead to the same observatory, so the choice is more about the experience you want than the destination itself.
Why it’s memorable
What makes this place special is that the journey and the destination work together. The chairlift creates a sense of anticipation, and the viewpoint rewards you with one of the most iconic panoramas in Japan.
It is also a very photogenic spot, with the famous matanozoki tradition, lush greenery, and the dramatic curve of Amanohashidate below. For a first-time visitor, it is one of those attractions that feels simple at first, but stays in your memory because the scenery is so complete and balanced.
