As night fully set in, I left the peaceful harbor and headed back into the heart of Kobe’s downtown, where the city truly comes alive after dark. My destination: the bustling district around Sannomiya Station—the main commercial and transit hub of Kobe.

The contrast from the bayfront serenity to the downtown buzz was striking. Neon signs lit up the buildings, glowing softly against the evening sky. The streets were alive with energy—locals heading out for dinner, tourists browsing small shops, and the ever-present hum of conversation echoing between the buildings.

Sannomiya, often referred to as the soul of Kobe, offers an exciting mix of shopping arcades, izakayas, modern restaurants, and nightlife spots. I wandered through the famous Center Gai shopping street, passing through its covered arcade filled with fashion boutiques, souvenir stores, and ramen shops. The scent of grilled meat and soy-based broths lingered in the air, tempting me at every turn.
